*Vol 4* was originally to be titled Snowblind, after one of several tracks referring to cocaine use. The album was recorded in California, the first time Sabbath had recorded a studio album outside the United Kingdom.

"Black Sabbath" is a heavy metal band that formed in Birmingham, England, in 1968. The band is widely considered to be one of the pioneers of heavy metal music, and their influence on the genre cannot be overstated. Black Sabbath's fourth studio album, titled Black Sabbath Vol. 4, was released in 1972 and was a critical and commercial success. The album features some of the band's most well-known tracks and is regarded as a landmark album in the development of heavy metal music.

"Black Sabbath Vol. 4" showcases the band's signature blend of heavy, distorted guitar riffs, thunderous drums, and ominous lyrics. The album's sound is often described as a mix of blues, hard rock, and heavy metal, and its influence on the latter genre cannot be overstated. The album's use of guitar riffs, powerful drumming, and dark, menacing lyrics set the standard for the heavy metal sound that would dominate the genre for decades to come.

One of the key influences on Black Sabbath's sound was the blues. The band's guitarist, Tony Iommi, was heavily influenced by blues guitarists like B.B. King and Albert King, and this influence can be heard in many of the band's songs. Black Sabbath also drew inspiration from horror movies, which is evident in the album's lyrics and themes. The band's music was often associated with the occult, and many of their songs dealt with themes of death, destruction, and the supernatural.

"Black Sabbath Vol. 4" was a critical and commercial success upon its release in 1972. The album reached number 12 on the UK Albums Chart and number 13 on the US Billboard 200. The album's success was due in part to the band's growing popularity and the fact that it showcased some of their best work to date.

Critics praised the album's sound and style, with many noting the band's growing sophistication and willingness to experiment with new sounds and techniques. Some critics also noted the album's darker themes and lyrics, which added to its overall impact and influence.

"Black Sabbath Vol. 4" is widely regarded as one of the band's best albums and a landmark release in the history of heavy metal music. The album's influence can be heard in countless heavy metal bands that followed, and many of the songs on the album remain staples of the genre to this day.

Album Production information:

The album: "BLACK SABBATH - Vol 4 (France)" was produced by: Black Sabbath and Patrick Meehan

Patrick Meehan, born on 8 February 1935, was an influential figure in the world of music management, best known for his role as the manager of the legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath during their early years. Meehan's tenure with the band played a significant role in shaping their success and establishing them as one of the most iconic rock acts of all time.

Born and raised in Birmingham, England, Meehan grew up with a deep love and passion for music. He had an innate understanding of the industry and recognized the potential of emerging talent. Meehan's journey into the music business began when he started working for various record companies and artist management firms, gaining valuable experience and knowledge along the way.

In the late 1960s, Meehan's path crossed with four young musicians from Birmingham who had formed a band called Black Sabbath. Recognizing their raw talent and unique sound, Meehan saw an opportunity to take their music to the masses and signed on as their manager in 1969. It was a decision that would forever change the trajectory of both Meehan's and Black Sabbath's careers.

Under Meehan's guidance, Black Sabbath released their eponymous debut album in 1970, which introduced the world to their dark and heavy sound. The album was a critical and commercial success, establishing Black Sabbath as pioneers of the emerging heavy metal genre. Meehan's strategic approach to marketing and promotion helped propel the band to international fame.

Meehan's managerial style was characterized by his astute business acumen, strong negotiation skills, and dedication to his artists. He played a crucial role in securing record deals, managing tours, and expanding the band's global reach. During his tenure, Black Sabbath released several iconic albums, including "Paranoid" (1970), "Master of Reality" (1971), and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" (1973). These albums solidified their status as one of the most influential and successful rock bands of the era.

However, as Black Sabbath's popularity soared, tensions began to rise between Meehan and the band members. Disagreements over financial matters and creative control eventually led to a falling out, and Meehan's association with Black Sabbath came to an end in 1975. The split marked the end of an era for both parties and marked a significant transition for the band.

After parting ways with Black Sabbath, Meehan continued to work in the music industry, managing various artists and pursuing other business ventures. Although his time with Black Sabbath was marred by disputes, Meehan's contributions to their early success cannot be overlooked. His managerial skills and ability to recognize talent played a pivotal role in shaping the band's legacy.

Patrick Meehan passed away on 28 July 2002, leaving behind a lasting impact on the music industry. His role as the manager of Black Sabbath during their formative years remains an essential chapter in the band's history, helping establish them as one of the most influential rock acts of all time.
