After a year at Berlin’s renowned Hansa Studio, the largest in the city at the time, he founded his own studio, the legendary Music Lab Berlin. Initially based in a former stationery shop, the studio moved to Berlin-Kreuzberg, where it was set up in a loft near the Berlin Wall, which was still standing at the time. This move cemented Music Lab Berlin as a creative hub for many of his productions.

In an effort to further his artistic vision, Harris Johns later established Spiderhouse, a recording facility located in the countryside near Berlin. For over a decade, Spiderhouse became a sanctuary for groundbreaking music production. However, the studio ceased operations in May 2009 after producing its final recording. Following this, Johns chose to reopen Music Lab Berlin, once again reestablishing it as a prime destination for bands seeking his expertise.

In 2007, Harris Johns fully revived Music Lab Berlin, preferring to focus on working in his own studios. This period marked another chapter of creativity and collaboration as the studio attracted both established acts and rising talent. Although he eventually stepped away from the day-to-day operations of the studio in 2016, this decision concluded a significant chapter in his illustrious career.
