JOEY BELLADONNA

Joey Belladonna, born Joseph Bellardini, is one of the most iconic voices in heavy metal history. Best known as the frontman for the legendary thrash metal band Anthrax, Belladonna possesses a powerful tenor range, wild stage presence, and undeniable charisma that have captivated audiences for decades.

Early Life and Influences

Born in Oswego, New York, in 1960, Belladonna's musical journey was shaped by his diverse background, which includes Italian-American and Native American (Iroquois) heritage. He was inspired by the intricate melodies and soaring vocals of classic rock bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Kansas, and Rush.

The Anthrax Era

Belladonna joined Anthrax in 1984, and his arrival marked a turning point for the band. His distinctive vocals propelled them into the forefront of the burgeoning thrash metal scene. From the seminal album 'Spreading the Disease' to classics like 'Among the Living' and 'Persistence of Time', Belladonna's unforgettable voice became synonymous with the band's sound. Fans were enthralled by his dynamic range, capable of both brutal intensity and soaring melodic passages. Songs like "Caught in a Mosh," "Indians," and "Madhouse" are testaments to the power of his voice and the band's songwriting.

Belladonna was an integral part of Anthrax's "classic lineup," contributing to some of their most commercially successful and critically acclaimed albums. Yet, even with tremendous success, his time with the band had its ups and downs. He left Anthrax in 1992, later rejoined in 2005, and was ultimately replaced again in 2007.

Beyond Anthrax

Outside of Anthrax, Belladonna has continued to explore his musical talents. He formed his own band, Belladonna, allowing him to express his own creative vision and musical direction. He also participates in various projects and collaborations, including the cover band Chief Big Way and the hard rock supergroup Beyond Frontiers.

Belladonna's musical legacy extends beyond his vocal talents. He is an engaging performer with an infectious energy that translates into captivating live shows. His interactions with the audience make an Anthrax concert more than just a musical performance; it's an unforgettable experience.
