Anthrax - Make Me Laugh 12" Picture Disc EP

The "Make Me Laugh" 12" picture disc includes two tracks, the title track "Make Me Laugh" and "Antisocial." "Make Me Laugh" is a fast-paced and energetic song with a catchy chorus and memorable guitar riffs. The song's lyrics satirize the entertainment industry and its obsession with superficiality and instant gratification. "Antisocial," on the other hand, is a cover of a French punk band called Trust. Anthrax's version of the song is heavier and more aggressive than the original, with faster tempos and a more intense vocal delivery. . "Make Me Laugh" Album Description:

In the late 1980s, thrash metal giants Anthrax were masters of blending serious intensity with a healthy dose of humor. Their 1988 release, the "Make Me Laugh" 12" picture disc EP, was an excellent showcase of their playful side.

The Title Track

The title track, "Make Me Laugh," is a quirky and surprisingly melodic departure from their usual thrash assault. Borrowing its primary riff from a vintage TV game show theme song, Anthrax infuse it with metal energy. The playful lyrics, delivered with Scott Ian's trademark snarl, skewer the superficiality of the music industry.

Flip Side Flipping Great

The EP's B-side packs even more surprises. First, there's their raucous cover of the Sex Pistols' "Friggin' in the Riggin.'" Notorious for its tongue-in-cheek profanity, this Anthrax rendition brings pure punk energy to the mix. For diehard fans, the real treat is the live version of "Antisocial." Recorded at the famed Hammersmith Odeon in London, it captures the band's blistering on-stage power and the crowd's enthusiastic response.

The Picture Disc Advantage

As a vinyl picture disc, the "Make Me Laugh" EP delivered both musical delights and a visually striking presentation. The disc itself featured a cartoon-inspired image of the band, mirroring the EP's offbeat humor. This format enhanced the collectible aspect and made it a must-have for dedicated Anthrax fans.

Album Summary:

Produced by Anthrax, Mark Dodson, Alex Perialas

  • Alex Perialas – Audio Engineer, Mixer, Record Producer

In my book, his credit is the “this is gonna hit hard” stamp—Pyramid Sound vibes all day.

Alex Perialas is an American audio engineer, mixer, and record producer who helped lock in the tight, punchy thrash sound of the mid-1980s through the early 1990s from Pyramid Sound Studios in Ithaca, New York—working with bands like Anthrax, Overkill, Testament, Nuclear Assault, S.O.D., and Flotsam & Jetsam. Later on, his work stretches into other lanes (Bad Religion, Pro-Pain), and he’s also been tied to teaching sound recording at Ithaca College—because apparently someone had to explain to the next generation how to make guitars sound like a chainsaw with manners.

  • Mark Dodson is a British record producer and sound engineer, who mostly works with artists in the heavy metal genre. He is best known for producing albums by Anthrax and Suicidal Tendencies, as well as working with dozens of other bands.
