Album Description / Collector's info:

Elton John is an English singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer who has been active in the music industry since the late 1960s. He has released numerous albums and singles, many of which have been commercial and critical successes. One such album is the 1989 release, "Sleeping with the Past," which was released on 12" vinyl LP.

"Sleeping with the Past" was released on 29 August 29, by MCA Records and was Elton John's 22nd studio album. The album marked a significant departure from John's previous releases as it featured a retro-soul sound that was influenced by the music of the 1960s and 1970s. The album was produced by Chris Thomas, who had previously worked with John on his 1983 album "Too Low for Zero."

The album was recorded at AIR Studios in Montserrat, and it featured a new backing band, which included guitarist Fred Mandel, bassist Romeo Williams, and drummer Jonathan Moffett.

The production of "Sleeping with the Past" was a departure from John's previous albums. The album was recorded live in the studio with a full band, and the songs were arranged and recorded in a more organic way than his previous albums. The album featured a more stripped-down sound, with less reliance on synthesizers and electronic instruments.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Sacrifice," which was released as a single and became a massive hit for John. The song features a simple piano melody, a catchy chorus, and a powerful vocal performance from John.

The album's retro-soul sound was achieved by using vintage recording equipment and techniques. The album was recorded on analog tape, and the mix was done on a mixing board from the 1970s. The use of vintage equipment gave the album a warm, organic sound that was reminiscent of the music of the 1960s and 1970s.

"Sleeping with the Past" received positive reviews from critics upon its release. The album was praised for its retro-soul sound, and many critics noted that it was a departure from John's previous work. The album was also praised for its strong songwriting and John's powerful vocal performances.

The album was a commercial success, reaching #6 on the US Billboard 200 and #1 in the UK. The album's lead single, "Sacrifice," was a massive hit, reaching #1 in the UK and #18 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Band Description:

Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947 in Pinner, a suburb of London, England. He showed a love for music from a very young age and began playing the piano at the age of three. By the time he was a teenager, he had already become an accomplished pianist, and he began playing in local pubs and clubs.

In the 1960s, Elton John joined the band Bluesology, which played a mix of blues and rock music. Elton's piano skills quickly became the highlight of the band's performances, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young musicians in London.

n 1967, Elton John met Bernie Taupin, a young songwriter who had placed an ad in a music magazine looking for a collaborator. The two hit it off immediately, and they began writing songs together. They quickly developed a unique and distinctive style, with Taupin writing the lyrics and Elton composing the music.

In 1970, Elton John released his debut album, "Empty Sky." The album was well-received by critics, but it failed to make much of an impact on the charts. However, Elton's follow-up album, "Elton John," was a huge success, thanks in part to the hit single "Your Song." The album spent months on the charts and established Elton as a major star.

Over the next several years, Elton John became one of the biggest names in pop music. He released a string of hit albums, including "Madman Across the Water," "Honky Chateau," and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." He also became known for his flamboyant stage shows and outrageous costumes, which included sequined jumpsuits and platform shoes.

Despite his success, Elton John struggled with personal demons during this time. He battled drug and alcohol addiction, and his personal relationships were often tumultuous. However, he continued to make music and tour, and his fans remained loyal.

In 1976, Elton John announced that he was retiring from music, and he played what he claimed would be his final concert at London's Wembley Stadium. However, he soon returned to the music scene, and he continued to record and tour throughout the 1980s and beyond.

Today, Elton John is recognized as one of the most important and influential musicians of the 20th century. His music has inspired countless artists, and his contributions to the world of pop music will never be forgotten.
