"Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" is the seventh studio album by British alternative rock band The Cure. Released in 1987, this album helped put The Cure into the American mainstream, becoming their first album to reach the Billboard Top 40. It was also a big international success, reaching the Top 10 in numerous countries.
The album was recorded at Studio Miraval in France, except for Andrew Brennen's saxophone parts, which were recorded at Compass Point in Nassau. It was produced by Dave Allen and Robert Smith.
Compass Point Studios, founded in 1977 by Chris Blackwell, the visionary owner of Island Records, stands as a pivotal and iconic institution in the realm of music production, particularly during the vibrant decades of the 1970s and 1980s. Nestled in the picturesque Bahamas, just outside Nassau, this studio emerged as a tropical oasis that not only offered a breathtaking setting but also fostered a distinctive creative atmosphere that left an indelible mark on the global music scene.
The 1970s and 1980s witnessed a plethora of influential albums recorded at Compass Point Studios, spanning various genres such as rock, reggae, funk, and pop. Artists like Bob Marley, Grace Jones, Iron Maiden Talking Heads, and The Rolling Stones all left their mark on the studio, contributing to its legacy as a hub of musical innovation.
"Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" is a more accessible and ambitious album than any of The Cure's previous albums. It finds Robert Smith expanding his pop vocabulary by tentatively adding bigger guitars, the occasional horn section, lite-funk rhythms, and string sections.
The album was a critical and commercial success, and it is considered to be one of The Cure's best albums. It has been certified Platinum in the United States, and it has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
