Album Description:

Billy Idol's "Cradle of Love" 12" EP released in 1990 was a major commercial success and solidified Idol's status as a major player in the alternative rock scene. The EP features four remixes of the hit single "Cradle of Love," each with its own unique take on the song's infectious chorus, catchy guitar riffs, and provocative lyrics.

The lead-off track, the "Extended Mix," is the most faithful to the original version of the song, featuring an extended intro and outro and a longer instrumental break. The "Youth Mix," produced by Martin Glover (aka Youth), adds a more electronic dance music feel to the song, with heavy use of synthesizers and a driving beat. The "Acappella Mix" strips away the music entirely, leaving only Idol's vocals and the song's backing vocals, highlighting the song's strong melodies and harmonies. Finally, the "Dub Mix" features a stripped-down, bass-heavy instrumental track, with Idol's vocals and guitar lines accentuating the song's rhythmic groove.

One of the most impressive aspects of the "Cradle of Love" EP is the way that each remix offers a distinct interpretation of the song, while still maintaining its core elements. The remixes showcase the versatility of Idol's songwriting and the skills of the various producers involved in the project. The EP also demonstrated Idol's willingness to experiment with new sounds and styles, incorporating elements of electronic dance music into his hard rock sound.

The "Cradle of Love" EP also solidified Idol's image as a provocative and edgy artist, with its provocative cover art and music video featuring a young woman seducing a mannequin. The EP and the song's accompanying video were controversial at the time, drawing criticism from some quarters for their sexual content, but also helped to cement Idol's status as an icon of alternative rock.

Billy Idol Biography

Billy Idol is a legendary figure in the world of rock music. Born William Michael Albert Broad in 1955 in Middlesex, England, Billy Idol rose to fame as the lead singer of the punk rock band Generation X in the late 1970s. With his rebellious image and energetic stage presence, Idol quickly became one of the most recognizable figures of the punk movement, paving the way for a successful solo career in the 1980s.

In 1981, Billy Idol left Generation X and embarked on a solo career, releasing his self-titled debut album the following year. The album was a commercial success, reaching the top 40 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and featuring hit songs such as "White Wedding" and "Hot in the City." However, it was his second album, "Rebel Yell," released in 1983, that truly launched Idol's solo career into the stratosphere. The album was a huge success, reaching number six on the U.S. charts and spawning the hit singles "Rebel Yell" and "Eyes Without a Face."

Throughout the 1980s, Billy Idol continued to release hit albums and singles, cementing his place as one of the biggest and most influential musicians of the decade. His unique blend of punk rock, new wave, and pop music helped to define the sound of the era, and his rebellious image and energetic live performances made him a favorite among fans and critics alike. Some of his other popular songs from this period include "Dancing with Myself," "Flesh for Fantasy," and "Catch My Fall."
