The RUNAWAYS at their best! This LP proofs that pre-punk sounds better on vinyl!
Album Description:
The album was produced by John Alcock and featured the classic lineup of Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Cherie Currie, Jackie Fox, and Sandy West. It consisted of 10 tracks and was the band's first album to feature significant contributions from Jett and Ford, who went on to have successful solo careers after the band's breakup in 1979. The album's opening track, "Little Sister," sets the tone for the rest of the record with its raw, hard-rock sound. It's a classic Runaways song, with Currie's powerful vocals leading the charge over a driving rhythm section and Ford's blistering guitar work. The second track, "Wasted," is a standout track that showcases the band's ability to write catchy, radio-friendly rock songs. Jett's lead vocals and Ford's guitar solo make this track a fan favorite to this day. The album's title track, "Waitin' for the Night," is a slower, bluesy number that provides a nice contrast to the rest of the album's faster-paced tracks. Currie's soulful vocals shine on this track, which features a beautiful guitar solo from Ford. Despite the success of the album, the band faced numerous challenges during this time. The band's label, Mercury Records, was reluctant to promote the album, and the band struggled to secure a slot on a major tour. The band's internal conflicts also began to escalate, with tensions between members resulting in Fox's departure from the band shortly after the album's release. In retrospect, "Waitin' for the Night" represents a high point in The Runaways' career, showcasing the band's unique blend of hard rock and punk influences. The album's raw, energetic sound continues to inspire new generations of rock fans, and the band's legacy as pioneers of women in rock remains strong to this day. |
