Chris Poland is an American guitarist, born on 1 December 1957, in Dunkirk, New York. He is best known for his work as the lead guitarist for the thrash metal band Megadeth from 1984 to 1987.
Poland began playing guitar at the age of 7 and was primarily self-taught. He later attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, where he honed his skills as a guitarist. In the early 1980s, he formed the jazz-fusion band The New Yorkers with his brother Mark Poland.
In 1984, Poland joined Megadeth, which at the time consisted of Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, and Gar Samuelson. He recorded two albums with the band, "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!" and "Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?," before being fired in 1987 due to drug and alcohol addiction.
After leaving Megadeth, Poland formed his own band, OHM, which fused jazz, rock, and metal influences. He has also worked as a session musician and collaborated with other artists, including Lamb of God, Circle Jerks, and Mumbo's Brain.
Poland has released several solo albums, including "Return to Metalopolis," "Chasing the Sun," and "Resistance." He is known for his virtuosic guitar playing and innovative use of jazz and fusion elements in his music.
In addition to his music career, Poland has also worked as a guitar teacher and has released instructional videos and books. He continues to tour and record music with OHM and as a solo artist.
