TANK: Four Decades of Raw Power and Enduring Influence in the Metal Scene"

TANK Band Description:

TANK is a heavy metal band formed in London, England in 1980. They are one of the most influential and enduring bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, alongside bands like Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, and Saxon. Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, the band has continued to tour and release new music, cementing their status as legends in the metal scene.

TANK was founded by bassist/vocalist Algy Ward, who had previously played in punk bands like The Saints and The Damned. He teamed up with guitarist Peter Brabbs, drummer Mark Brabbs, and guitarist Mick Tucker to form the original lineup of TANK. The band quickly gained a following with their high-energy live shows and aggressive, riff-heavy music. They released their debut album, "Filth Hounds of Hades," in 1982, which is now considered a classic of the NWOBHM genre.

The band's early sound was heavily influenced by classic metal bands like Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, but they also incorporated punk and hard rock elements into their music. Algy Ward's snarling vocals and thunderous bass lines were a defining characteristic of the band's sound, as were the twin guitar harmonies of Peter Brabbs and Mick Tucker. Mark Brabbs' powerful drumming provided the backbone for the band's hard-hitting rhythms.

Over the years, TANK underwent numerous lineup changes, with Algy Ward being the only constant member. The band's sound also evolved, incorporating elements of thrash metal and speed metal in the 1980s and 1990s. They continued to release albums and tour throughout the 2000s and 2010s, despite the death of Peter Brabbs in 2007.

One of TANK's most notable achievements is their influence on other metal bands. Their music has been covered by numerous bands, including Metallica, who covered their song "The Bridgehead" on their "Garage Inc." album. They also inspired a new generation of metal bands, including Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax.

TANK's music is characterized by its heavy, driving riffs, pounding drums, and aggressive vocals. They have always been a band that puts the emphasis on power and intensity, rather than technical prowess or virtuosity. Their music is meant to be played loud, with the volume cranked up to 11.

Despite the band's longevity and influence, TANK has always remained somewhat under the radar. They never achieved the same level of commercial success as some of their peers, but their music has always been highly respected by metal fans and musicians alike. They have remained true to their roots, never compromising their sound or style for the sake of mainstream acceptance.

"This Means War" is the third album by British heavy metal band Tank, released in 1983. On this album, the line-up expanded to a four-piece, with the addition of second guitarist Mick Tucker, former member of the NWOBHM band "White Spirit". Thanks to Tucker's songwriting contributions and to the sound expanded by an extra guitar, the band changed their music in comparison with their previous albums with longer, more melodic compositions, which helped differentiate Tank from Motörhead, the band they were often compared to.
