Emerging amidst the new wave and synth-pop dominated 1980s music scene, Asia, a British progressive rock supergroup, defied expectations and achieved remarkable success. Formed in 1981, the band brought together four seasoned musicians: John Wetton (vocals, bass) from King Crimson and Roxy Music, Steve Howe (guitars) from Yes, Geoff Downes (keyboards) from Yes and The Buggles, and Carl Palmer (drums) from Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Asia's self-titled debut album, released in 1982, became an instant sensation. It reached the top of the charts in several countries, propelled by the infectious hit single "Heat of the Moment."
