"Deep" Album Description:

In 1989, Northern Irish rockers Silent Running released their most ambitious album to date, the appropriately titled "Deep". This collection of songs showcased the band's evolution towards a bolder, more polished rock sound, making it a captivating listen and an ideal showcase for the larger-than-life format of 12" vinyl.

The Sound Transformation

"Deep" marked a distinct shift from Silent Running's grittier new wave beginnings. Songs like "Deep in the Heart of Nowhere", "Everything Your Heart Desires", and "Strength of Our Love" demonstrate a newfound confidence in anthemic melodies and soaring guitar riffs. While maintaining their energetic spirit, the band embraced a more stadium-ready approach, aligning themselves with contemporaries like Simple Minds and U2.

This sonic evolution is a perfect match for the 12" format. The spaciousness of vinyl allows the driving rhythms and expansive guitar work to breathe, offering a more immersive experience compared to the compressed dynamic range of cassettes or early CDs.

Beyond the Music

The 12" format also offers a larger canvas for artwork, a fact Silent Running took advantage of with "Deep". The striking album art, featuring a lone figure standing on a windswept shore, complements the album's themes of longing and searching for meaning. The larger size lets fans better appreciate the intricacies of this artwork.
