 The B-52's is an American new wave band that was formed in Athens, Georgia in 1976. The band's unique blend of pop, rock, and surf music, combined with their quirky fashion sense and eccentric stage presence, has made them one of the most distinctive and beloved bands of the 20th century.

 The B-52's formed when vocalists Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, and Cindy Wilson met guitarist Keith Strickland and drummer Ricky Wilson. The band's name was inspired by Southern slang for the bouffant hairstyles that Pierson and Wilson sported, which were reminiscent of the famous B-52 bomber aircraft. The band quickly gained popularity in Athens and soon signed with Warner Bros. Records.

 In 1979, the B-52's released their self-titled debut album, which included their breakthrough hit "Rock Lobster". The song's unusual blend of surf rock and new wave, combined with the band's distinctive harmonies and quirky lyrics, quickly made it a hit with audiences.
