Soundgarden's "Down on the Upside" was released on 21 May 1996, as their fifth studio album. It was the follow-up to their highly successful "Superunknown" album, which had propelled the band to international stardom. "Down on the Upside" was released on 2LP gatefold cover, with this limited edition clear vinyl version also available.

"Down on the Upside" was produced by Soundgarden and Adam Kasper, and it marked a departure from the band's signature sound. The album has a more experimental and eclectic feel, with a mix of hard rock, heavy metal, and psychedelic influences.
