- German Release
This is the German release of "Pendulum" which is the sixth album by the "Creedence Clearwater Revival", released in 1970. It was also the final Creedence album with rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty who left the group shortly after this album was released. The group continued as a trio.
By 1970, Creedence Clearwater Revival had firmly established themselves as American rock royalty. Their sixth studio album, "Pendulum," arrived while they were still riding the wave of hits and critical acclaim, but it also signaled a significant shift for the band, both musically and personally.
Exploring New Territories
Musically, "Pendulum" demonstrates a newfound sense of sonic experimentation. Beyond their signature swamp-rock sound, CCR began toying with elements of psychedelia, progressive rock, and even funk. Tracks like the horn-laden "Chameleon" and the keyboard-heavy "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" exemplified their willingness to venture outside their comfort zone.
This stylistic expansion wasn't without its critics. Some fans and critics found the album less focused and immediate than their earlier work. However, "Pendulum" reflects the restless spirit of the late 1960s and early 70s, a time of musical innovation and boundary-pushing for many artists.
Fractures Within the Band
"Pendulum" was also marked by growing tensions within the band. John Fogerty, frontman, guitarist, and primary songwriter, had increasingly taken control of the creative direction, leading to dissatisfaction from other members, particularly his brother Tom Fogerty. This internal conflict foreshadowed what was to come: Tom Fogerty would leave the band shortly after the album's release.
Behind the Music
Despite the turmoil behind the scenes, the musicianship on "Pendulum" remained stellar. Along with John Fogerty (lead vocals, lead guitar, piano, saxophone), there was Tom Fogerty (rhythm guitar), Stu Cook (bass), and Doug Clifford (drums). This was the last CCR album to feature the original four-piece lineup.
