"Dead to this World" is a Norwegian Black Metal/Thrash Metal band from Bergen. Between 2005 and 2011 they made 4 recordings: "Dominions of Death" a demo recording from 2005, "Audiopain / Dead to This World" a split album, "First Strike for Spiritual Renewance" the only full length album, "Sacrifice" an EP made in 2011.
Released in 2007, "First Strike for Spiritual Renewance" marks the sole full-length studio album from the Norwegian band DEAD TO THIS WORLD. Emerging from the fertile grounds of the Norwegian metal scene, the album is a testament to the band's unique blend of thrash metal aggression and black metal atmosphere.
Historical Context
DEAD TO THIS WORLD formed in 2005, a time when the Norwegian metal scene was still reverberating from the impact of black metal's second wave. While black metal remained a dominant force, a new generation of bands was emerging, seeking to expand the genre's boundaries and incorporate diverse influences. DEAD TO THIS WORLD was part of this wave, injecting their music with a heavy dose of thrash metal energy.
Musical Exploration
"First Strike for Spiritual Renewance" is a relentless assault on the senses. The album's ten tracks are characterized by fast tempos, aggressive riffing, and a raw, unpolished production aesthetic. While the black metal influence is evident in the atmospheric elements and occasional blast beats, the album's core sound is firmly rooted in thrash metal. Songs like "The Beast of Gévaudan" and "Anti-Human" showcase the band's ability to craft memorable riffs and infectious hooks while maintaining a raw, unyielding intensity.
Production Team and Recording Studio
The album was produced by Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen, a veteran of the Norwegian metal scene. The recording studio remains undisclosed, but the album's raw, unpolished sound suggests a DIY approach to production. This rawness, however, is part of the album's charm, adding to its aggressive, uncompromising character.
