Gravestone is a German heavy metal band that was formed in 1977 in Stuttgart. The band was originally known as "Phönix" but changed their name to Gravestone in 1982. The original lineup consisted of Stefan Kessel on vocals, Thomas Kelleners and Ladi Geisler on guitars, Rudi Dorner on bass, and Bernd Helmer on drums.
Gravestone released their debut album, "Do not Take Life Too Seriously" in 1980, which was a mixture of hard rock and heavy metal. The band's sound evolved into a more classic heavy metal style with their subsequent releases, "Victim of Chains" (1984), "Back to Attack" (1985), and "Creating a Monster" (1986).
The band went through a number of lineup changes over the years, but they continued to release albums into the early 1990s. In 1992, Gravestone released their final album, "The Best of Gravestone", which included re-recordings of some of their most popular tracks.
Gravestone is known for their classic heavy metal sound, with fast guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and driving rhythms. The band's music is influenced by bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, and their style has been described as "no-nonsense heavy metal".
While Gravestone never achieved the same level of commercial success as some of their contemporaries, they remain a beloved band among heavy metal fans. Their music continues to be celebrated by fans of classic heavy metal, and their influence can be heard in the music of many modern heavy metal bands.
