"ORIGINAL SIN" is an all-female fronted Heavy Metal band from Long Island, New York and was formed in the year 1986. This album "Sin Will Find You Out" is the only official full-length album they released. The women actually faked to be the musicians but actually the music on "Sin Will Find You Out" was written and recorded by the musicians responsible for Exorcist's Nightmare Theatre, with the assistance of David DeFeis's sister Danae as lead vocalist.
In the mid-1980s, the thrash and speed metal scene was reaching a fever pitch. Amongst the giants like Metallica and Slayer, a new wave of bands were carving out their own sonic identities. Original Sin, hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, burst onto the scene in 1986 with their debut LP, "Sin Will Find You Out," a relentless offering of speed metal fury.
Musical Exploration
"Sin Will Find You Out" showcases Original Sin's commitment to raw, aggressive speed metal. The album is a whirlwind of fast tempos, furious drumming, and aggressive vocals. Tracks like "Conjuration of the Watcher" and "Point of No Return" embody the band's signature sound, featuring rapid-fire riffs and relentless energy.
While rooted in speed metal, Original Sin also explored elements of power metal, evident in the soaring vocals and melodic guitar leads found on tracks like "The Curse." This blend of styles gave the band a unique edge, separating them from their contemporaries.
Genre and Scene
Original Sin firmly established themselves within the burgeoning US speed metal scene. Their debut album resonated with fans who craved fast, aggressive music. The band's sound drew comparisons to other speed metal acts like Agent Steel and Helstar, further solidifying their place within the genre.
Production and Recording
The album was produced by the renowned Neil Kernon, known for his work with bands like Queensrÿche and Dokken. His expertise helped capture Original Sin's raw energy while ensuring a polished sound.
The recording took place at Studio One in Racine, Wisconsin, a well-regarded facility known for its work with Midwestern metal bands. The studio's acoustics and equipment complemented Original Sin's sound, resulting in a powerful and dynamic recording.
Historical Context
"Sin Will Find You Out" arrived during a pivotal moment in heavy metal history. The speed and thrash metal scenes were flourishing, and Original Sin's debut album captured the intensity and energy of the era. While the band didn't achieve mainstream success, their contribution to the speed metal genre remains significant.
