Collector's Description:

The Extrabreit band was one of the most successful exponents of the Neue Deutsche Welle movement of the 1980s.

Extrabreit is a German rock band that was formed in 1978 in Hagen, Germany. They are considered to be one of the most influential and popular bands of the Neue Deutsche Welle (New German Wave) movement, which emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Over the years, Extrabreit has released a number of albums and singles that have cemented their place in the German music scene.

The band's original members were Kai Havaii (vocals), Stefan Kleinkrieg (guitar), Rolf Möller (bass), Hansi Behrendt (keyboards), and Lars "Zwerg" Bühren (drums). Their early music was influenced by punk rock and new wave, with their first single, "Polizisten," released in 1980. The song was a commentary on police brutality and became a hit, earning the band significant recognition.

Extrabreit's first album, " Ihre größten Erfolge" (Their Greatest Hits), was released in 1980 and featured many of their early singles. The album was a commercial success and helped to establish the band as a major player in the German music scene. They continued to release a number of successful albums over the years, including "LP der Woche" (Album of the Week), "Welch Ein Land! - Was Für Männer" (What a Country! - What Men!), and "Hotel Monopol."

One of the reasons for the band's popularity was their ability to blend social commentary with catchy, upbeat music. Many of their songs addressed political and social issues, such as "Hurra, Hurra, Die Schule Brennt" (Hooray, Hooray, The School is Burning), which criticized the German education system, and "Der Führer Schenkt Den Juden Eine Stadt" (The Leader Gives the Jews a City), which addressed anti-Semitism in Germany.

In addition to their music, Extrabreit was known for their distinctive fashion style, which included leather jackets, tight pants, and studded belts. The band's image was an important part of their appeal, and they were often compared to other new wave bands of the time, such as The Stranglers and The Clash.

Although the band's popularity waned in the 1990s, they continued to release new music and tour throughout Germany and Europe. In 2008, they celebrated their 30th anniversary with a special concert in Hagen, which was attended by thousands of fans.

Today, Extrabreit is remembered as one of the most influential bands of the Neue Deutsche Welle movement. Their music and fashion style continue to inspire new generations of musicians and fans, and their place in the German music scene is secure. Despite the passing of time, their songs still resonate with audiences and their legacy lives on.
