Pacemaker Records was a small Texas-based record label with notable connections to the early Texas blues and rock scenes. Run by the infamous producer Huey P. Meaux , Pacemaker Records was known for supporting local Texas talent and releasing music that often blended blues, rock, and country elements. Meaux, known as "The Crazy Cajun," was instrumental in discovering and promoting musicians who would later make a significant impact on American music.
One of the label's most famous artists was Johnny Winter , an extraordinary blues guitarist and vocalist who became internationally recognized for his fiery playing style and authentic blues sound. Early in his career, Winter recorded several tracks with Pacemaker, including the singles "Birds Can't Row Boats" and "Leavin' Blues" . These tracks showcase Winter's raw, powerful approach to the blues, even before he gained widespread fame in the late 1960s.
