Album Description: Parasite's self-titled album, released in 1984, marked the arrival of one of the most promising Swedish heavy metal bands of the era. The band's sound was a blend of classic heavy metal and thrash metal, with influences from bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Slayer. T In the early 1980s, the heavy metal genre was still relatively new and was gaining popularity worldwide. The music was characterized by its fast-paced, heavy guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and lyrics that often explored themes of darkness, rebellion, and the occult. Sweden was not immune to this trend, and by the early 1980s, a vibrant heavy metal scene had emerged in the country. Bands like Bathory, Mercyful Fate, and Europe were gaining a following both in Sweden and internationally, and the scene was growing rapidly. It was in this context that Parasite emerged. The band was formed in 1982 in the city of Uppsala by guitarist Bo Petersson, drummer Johan Billerhag, and bassist/vocalist/keyboardist Paul Zanichelli. They were soon joined by guitarist Anders Holmström. The band quickly made a name for themselves in the local scene, and in 1984, they released their self-titled debut album on 12" vinyl LP. Musically, Parasite's self-titled album was a fusion of classic heavy metal and thrash metal. The band's sound was characterized by its fast-paced, riff-heavy guitar work, pounding drums, and powerful vocals. The album's track, "Nightwinds," sets the tone with its fast, driving rhythm and catchy guitar riffs. The band's influences were evident in their music. The album's sound was reminiscent of bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, with its soaring vocals and intricate guitar work. At the same time, the band's use of aggressive, thrash-inspired riffs and fast tempos gave their music a raw, intense energy that was uniquely their own. The album's lyrics, which often explored themes of darkness and the occult, were also in line with the heavy metal tradition.
